 Financial elder abuse
  is defined as the illegal or improper use of an e
 lder's funds, property, or assets, including, but 
 not limited to misusing or stealing an older perso
 n's money or possessions, coercing or deceiving an
  older person into signing any document, and the i
 mproper use of conservatorship, guardianship, or p
 ower of attorney. Over half of the perpetrators in
  financial abuse cases are family members of the v
 ictim. Financial exploitation can lead to monetary
  loss, financial dependence, psychological decline
 , and compromised physical wellness. Financial eld
 er abuse cases span many different areas of law, i
 ncluding trusts and estate, family law, real estat
 e law, and criminal law. Civil attorneys are neces
 sary to deploy innovative legal strategies and adv
 ocacy to mitigate the effects of abuse and help ol
 der adults attain the remedies they seek.

 l explore emerging issues and trends in financial 
 exploitation, and provide practical information fo
 r practitioners who are new to aging and elder law
  issues, as well as practitioners with elder law e
 xperience who are looking to deepen their understa
 nding of financial elder abuse remedies.
