Western Center on Law and Poverty

Western Center is a nonprofit law firm representing over 4 million poor Californians on a variety of issues related to health, housing and welfare. Leaving the representation of individual clients on individual cases to neighborhood legal aid offices, our work is designed to make large scale improvements in the way low-income Californians receive the most critical services and benefits. Our successes often help hundreds of thousands of people at a time. To do this, we craft integrated social change strategies, which draw on impact litigation, statewide advocacy, administrative advocacy, support for local legal aid offices and community education.

We operate statewide. We specialize in major impact litigation, especially class actions. We have the only legislative advocacy office in Sacramento, which represents the statewide interests of low income Californians.
