California Pro Bono Best Practices Guide: Building a Successful Pro Bono Relationship

Audience: Legal Services Providers, Large Law Firms

The idea of creating a California-specific guide on pro bono best practices was developed at the 2008 and 2009 Pro Bono Summits. Over the last year, the Public Interest Clearinghouse has staffed a writing group that developed a chapter on best practices in intake and referral of pro bono matters, which is available at www.pic.org/probonoguide. Participants in this session will brainstorm to develop the content for the next chapter- "Building a Successful Pro Bono Relationship". Topics to be addressed include: how to identify and maintain the right contacts; starting and building the relationships; incorporating training from both sides of the relationship; collaborating to launch new pro bono projects; and how to ensure useful support such as MCLE trainings.
